The 2025 Grammy Awards nominations have been announced, with a host of artists from various genres making history. Among the notable names are Dolly Parton, Shaboozee, and a few others who have broken new ground in their respective fields. This year’s nominations also highlight a continued effort to keep up with the evolving music landscape, as seen in the inclusion of AI-assisted songs.
Dolly Parton’s 55th Career Nomination
Country music legend Dolly Parton has scored her 55th career nomination in the audio book, narration, and storytelling recording category for her Behind the Seams: My Life in Rhinestones. The 83-year-old artist is up against producer Guy Oldfield, George Clinton, Barbra Streisand, and Jimmy Carter, who could become the oldest Grammy award winner in history at 100.
Shaboozee’s Historic First Nomination
Texas rapper Shaboozee, whose track “SPAGHETTII” features Dolly Parton and Linda Martell, has received his first-ever Grammy nomination. The song, which is the biggest of the year, having spent more weeks at Number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 than any other, is up for various categories, including record of the year and melodic rap performance.
The AI-Assisted Beatles Track
The Beatles’ last new song, “Now and Then,” which was AI-assisted, has been nominated in the record of the year category. This move signifies the Grammys’ commitment to keeping up with how music creators and their community are using technology.
Latin and K-pop Representations
However, like last year, there’s a significant lack of Latin music across the board, and no representation in the major categories. Similarly, K-pop seems to be absent, with no nominations for the BTS members who’ve released solo material this year: RM, J-Hope, and Jimin.
The Recording Academy recognizes the need for improvement across many genres and is continuing to invite people to be a part of the academy. Without the right representation, they can’t expect the right results. The 2025 Grammy Awards will air on February 2 live on CBS and Paramount+ from the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
